Walking path and park by Doha Corniche

Want to exercise? Jump on Doha Metro

Just by taking Doha Metro home from work (taxi there, Metro home) I’ve doubled my daily step count. It’s not particularly high, but it is (yes you guessed it) a step in the right direction. It’s also helped me increase my daily steps on the weekend, as I tend to use the Metro to explore an area to enjoy this perfect winter weather. Isn’t it just glorious at the moment?

Not only could you use Doha Metro to walk more in and around the city, but you use it to easily travel to areas that offer tracks and parks for walking, running, doing some circuit training or yoga.

Where to head…

DECC or Corniche Metro Stations

Get off the Metro at the DECC stop or the Corniche stop on the Red Line and you can visit the Corniche – a 7 km pathway that enables you to run, walk or rent an electric scooter and enjoy the sea views and spectacular views of Doha’s skyline.

Prefer cycling? There’s a bike hire hut at Hotel Park next to Sheraton Grand Doha Hotel that offers a selection of bikes for adults, kids, and families – prices seem reasonable too. You can rent an adult bike for 1 hour for QAR 35.

Need something more challenging? Insanity Qatar is a non-profit community group that organizes group cardio fitness, running programmes and exercise classes at Hotel Park and a number of other parks around Doha. To check out what’s on offer, see their Schedule Highlight button on their Instagram page.

Are you into tennis or squash? Corniche Station is your best stop to access Khalifa Tennis and Squash Complex. Here you can watch international Tennis Opens and squash competitions that attract talent from around the world. And You can also hire tennis or squash courts by the hour – the hire cost of a tennis or squash court is QAR 75 per hour, and this has to be booked 24-hours in advance.

Al Aziziyah or Sports City Metro Stations

Situated next to Aspire Park and Khalifa Stadium, these stations on the Gold Line enable you to reach great running tracks throughout the park, have access to lots of green space for walking and to football pitches. It’s generally quite a busy active area with lots of families taking picnics, people trying to maintain their fitness, and others taking a leisurely evening stroll.

Al Bidda Park

Take the Metro to Al Bidda Park Metro Station on the Red Line and the Green Line for access to one of Qatar’s largest parks – which also happens to be a pet-friendly park, however, you can’t take your pet on the Metro. Full of lots of outdoor exercise equipment, the park also features a walking and cycling track and has bookable courts for basketball, football, and tennis.

To find out more information about booking the recreational facilities call:  4428 7709 (Park Office – for Al Bidda and Al Rumailah areas) and 4428 7777 (Wadi Al Sail area).
