Qatar National Day – a time to appreciate our second home

Every year on the 18th of December Qatar celebrates its National Day. Qataris celebrate their nation and take pride in its achievements, especially in recent years! But, what are us ex-pats are we celebrating?

In my opinion, just like locals, we are celebrating this nation and its achievements. Why? because we are contributing to Qatar’s growth and prosperity path too.

A few years ago His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani while addressing the Advisory Council said: “I reiterate my appreciation to our pedigreed Qatari people and residents of the State.” This truly meant a lot to me as an ex-pat. I realized no matter how big or small my role is – I have a role.

We came here with a certain skill-set and we made it here. We made careers, families, community, and most importantly lived well and safe.

The blockade was no show-stopper, Covid-19 is an obstacle, and the show will go on…

Despite the safety measures the state is taking, Qatar and the residents, locals, and ex-pats must celebrate. I know I will.

I am celebrating a safe country, I am celebrating a prosperous country, I am celebrating my successes (and failures) for all the good reasons for making me the man I am today.

Happy National Day Qatar!

A Doha resident for the past 12 years. I've seen this city grow, and I am proud that I took part in it.

Doha Metro was the biggest thing that ever happened in here and I was super excited about it. I Deeply and genuinely believe that the Metro is a culture-changing factor, and way more than point A to point B medium.

- Practice what you preach - I use the metro on a daily basis!
