Get your knit on with these great supply stores around Doha

Knitting is considering one of the most relaxing hobbies around, and has found itself gaining significant attention thanks to British Olympian Tom Daley. The gold medal winning diver was spotted on several occasions at last month’s Tokyo Olympics knitting up a storm on his way to victory. Proving the hobby is not just that habit that your grandmother has.

Knowing where to find the right knitting supplies is the first step to finding your inner calm, much like Tom Daley.

We went looking for some of Qatar’s best options when it comes to finding wool, needles and other haberdashery items.

If you’re looking for best budget deals, you can’t go wrong with Daiso. While all the branches have a selection of colorful wool, we found the recently opened Mirqab Mall branch to be the best stocked of them all.

Closest Doha Metro Station: Al Sadd Station on the Gold Line, and then a 15 min walk (alternatively you can use a Metro Bus stop), or Al Aziziyah on the Gold Line for Villaggio, or Al Riffa on the Green Line for Mall of Qatar.

Dollar Plus in City Centre is another crafters paradise. Similar to Daiso in vibe and offerings, you’re likely to find a color and fabric unique to their store. There is also a branch in Ezdan Mall which is not accessible via the metro, but worth checking out if you’re in the area.

By far the pick of our stops was Today’s Fashion in Old Airport. They have aisles and aisle of yarn that covers every requirement. Whether you prefer knitting or crocheting, there’s a yarn colour of every thickness and length. We simply couldn’t decide which combo we loved the most!

If you’re looking for a more traditional store for your supplies, then you can find plenty of options that have a more homely feel. The best example of this is the Singer Store in Ad Dawhah. The store has been there for decades and still continues to provide supplies to the Qatar’s avid community of tailors, cross stitchers and knitting enthusiasts.

Closest Doha Metro Station: Souq Waqif Station on the Gold Line

Here’s a tip from us, if you find a wool color you like, stock on plenty of skeins (yes that’s what a bundle of wool is called), because experience has taught us that once you run out, finding the same shade of your favourite colour can be infuriating!

If you have any tips for our avid knitting community out there, share them with us in the comments below. But hurry, because, remember, a stitch in time saves nine.
