Is Doha Metro open? Are there extended operating hours? Will there be queuing in place?
The good news is that yes, it is open. According to announcements made by @metrotram_qa Doha Metro is open for Qatar National Day, and will run for extended hours from 14:00 PM to 0:59 AM.
Be travel smart
It is advised to be travel and COVID-19 smart. To make sure you have enough top up on your travel card, ensure that health and safety measures are followed at all times, and to be aware that certain stations are going to be a lot busier. For example, the Corniche is likely to be busy with people wanting to see the firework displays. Note: there are two opportunities to see these. The first is scheduled at 6:30 PM and the second at 8:30 PM.
A queueing system might be implemented at the Corniche Doha Metro Station due to the increase of commuters. However, there are other nearby stations that you could use instead: Al Bidda, Souq Waqif or West Bay Stations.
2020 Amir Cup Final
Doha Metro is also likely to be busy with travelers heading to the 2020 Amir Cup Final at Al Rayyan Stadium. The stop used to access the stadium is Al Riffa Station and the bridge from Mall of Qatar is going to have limited access, so allow plenty of time to get to the stadium in time.
Although the Corniche area is closed during the morning to limit crowds – there still seems to be a lot of ways you can celebrate around town. You can book a seat in the hotel around town to enjoy Corniche (and firework) views. You can also head to the Corniche, Katara, or the Dhow harbour.
How will you be spending the day?
