Absolutely! The 31st edition of Doha International Book Fair, held at Doha Exhibition and Conference Centre is a dream destination for book lovers.
Why visit Doha International Book Fair?
- Choice: There are so many books to choose from. In fact, I felt overwhelmed by the sheer amount there. Luckily a lot were not relevant to me as they were in Arabic. There’s fiction, self-help, business, architecture, fashion, history, religious, branding, cookery… it goes on.
- You’re looking for children’s books. There are so many learning resources and fictional books available in English and Arabic. There’s also toys, puzzles and educational games.
- It’s an inspiring visit: There’s art on display, talks and discussions and great booths from a number of different groups that you never knew existed (I came across a booth for Qatar authors which had a talk taking place).
- Knowledge: You’ll find out about free reading programmes and resources. Qatar Foundation’s booth is huge and dedicated to the different programmes it runs such as Qatar Reads and Mommy to Be. While Qatar National Library booth helps you discover the innovation station available to students and adults.
Good to know before you go:

- Kids under 12 can’t visit. It’s only open to vaccinated children 12 years and older.
- Take cash. The stalls I visited only accepted cash (that did feel a bit odd in these COVID times)
- Doha International Book Fair is held at Doha Exhibition and Conference Centre (DECC), which means it’s incredibly easy to visit via Doha Metro. The nearest stop is DECC station on the red line.
- It’s only open until the 22 January so make sure you start planning your visit.
